The International Geoscience Programme (IGCP) Project #512 held its inaurgural meeting on August 27, 2005 in Aberystwyth, Wales, during the IAS conference on Glacial Processes and Products. The broad purpose of this project was to bring together scientists from many countries and subdisciplines in the Earth sciences with the common objective of making a global synthesis of the Neoproterozoic (1000 to 541 million years ago) glaciations. This project serves as a vehicle for organizing field workshops and meetings, stimulating collaborative research, and publishing a new book on the Neoproterozoic glacials, with overviews on key stratigraphic successions from around the world, all written in a consistent and concise format.
This site is meant to provide a companion photo atlas to the book, which is to be published as a Geological Society of London Memoir in fall 2011. The Memoir includes a series of overview articles related to various aspects of Neoproterozoic geology, followed by reviews of key Neoproterozoic successions from around the world. The photos provide a visual record of these successions highlighting, where possible, the quality and extent of outcrop exposure, the common sedimentary facies encountered and any unusual features. These are subdivided by geographic location, following the chapter structure of the Memoir. Photos will be added as they are received from authors so please check back if you do not find what you are looking for.
